Monroe County District Attorney’s Response to Channel 28 Stroud Township Death Report

For Immediate Release

On Monday, March 13, 2017 Channel 28 Reporter Briana Strunk wrote an article about a tragedy which occurred the day before at a residence in Stroud Township in which a mother and young child lost their lives. Based on the article it appears that the information was relayed by Deputy Coroner Michael Sak.

The article recklessly and without regard to the sensibilities of the victims' family, school mates, and the public, released the identities of both victims and the cause of their deaths. The article also infers that suspects are being sought.

The effect of this reckless disclosure is to subject the survivors to further emotional upset, to subject the child victim's school mates to the risk of emotional trauma, without an opportunity for school officials to prepare grief counseling, and to alarm the public that perpetrators might be at large.

Such a disregard of basic common sense and decency should not and must not be repeated in the future.
