The Pleasant Valley school board approved the payment of $977,479.84 to Belfor USA Group Inc. for mold remediation at Pleasant Valley Intermediate School. The money was taken from the Capital Reserve Fund. The final invoice for Hillman Consulting LLC is expected to be presented to the board next month.

The initial estimate for the remediation was $1.2 million. The total won’t be known until the Hillman invoice is included.

Over the summer, mold was found in a few areas of the high school and the elementary school, but Pleasant Valley Intermediate School was hit hard by the mold and needed to be cleaned thoroughly.

The district delayed the start of the school year by a day to make sure all of the schools were safe. The intermediate school remained closed to staff and students for several weeks until the remediation was complete.
