Polk Township home destroyed in fire

The West End Fire Company responded to a house fire at 3608 Ashley Court in Polk Township Thursday afternoon.

Kathy Connor said she was staying at her brother- in-law’s home there , and watching TV when she smelled smoke.

Connor went to the front door and realized she left her shih tzu named Ginj inside. She went back into the house and found Ging under a table, grabbed him and went back outside.

A neighbor called 911. West End Fire Company responded.

Derrick Burger, Lieutenant of the West End Fire Company said the fire started in the rear basement of the home. The fire traveled up through the house and blew the roof off, Burger said. He described the home as a total loss.

A fire destroyed a Polk Township home Thursday afternoon, though no one was hurt.

Kathy Connor said she was staying at her brother-in-law’s home at 3608 Ashley Court and watching TV when she smelled smoke.

Connor went to the front door and realized she left her shih tzu, Ginj, inside. She went back into the house and found Ginj under a table, grabbed him and went back outside.

A neighbor called 911. Polk Township Fire Company responded.

Derrick Burger, lieutenant of the company, said the fire started in the rear basement of the home. It traveled up through the house and blew the roof off, Burger said. He described the home as a total loss.

Also assisting at the scene was the West End Fire Company, the Kunkletown Fire Company, Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Company and Towamensing Fire Company.
