Polk Township Man charged with Terroristic Threats and related offenses.

Monroe County District Attorney Detectives charged GREGORY S. SCHLEGEL, 43, of Polk Twp. for allegedly making threats on January 11, 2018, to assassinate the first person who bids on his property during a Sheriff's sale scheduled for February 22, 2018.

On January 16th, 2018 Monroe County District Attorney Detectives received a complaint that SCHLEGEL contacted a Monroe County Sheriff's Office property clerk and made the "assassination" threat during their conversation. When the clerk attempted to lighten the mood of the conversation by replying "Well you know what I look like, don't shoot me." SCHLEGEL replied, "I'm an ex-marine, I hit what I am aiming at."

Charges were filed against SCHLEGEL by Detective Mario ORLANDO, including Threats and other improper influence in official and political matters, Terroristic Threats and Obstructing administration of law or other governmental function.

SCHLEGEL is currently out on $20,000.00 unsecured bail and will appear before Magisterial District Judge Kristina Anzini for his Preliminary Hearing on a later date.

Sixteen rifles and four handguns were confiscated from SCHLEGEL'S residence to be held in safekeeping until the matter is resolved.

In light of highly publicized incidents of violence throughout the nation, the District Attorney's Office takes threats of this nature seriously.
