Project to Pave 10 miles of Interstate 80 Begins Due to Wolf Administration’s ‘Resurface PA’ Initiative
08/16/2018
The Wolf Administration announced today work will begin soon on a project to resurface approximately 10 miles of Interstate 80 westbound in Tobyhanna and Tunkhannock townships, Monroe County.
The project is made possible by Resurface PA, the Wolf Administration's new statewide initiative to accelerate repaving work on interstates and attack potholes across Pennsylvania.
“The money made available through Resurface PA is helping to accelerate much-needed repairs to one of the most heavily traveled east-west routes in Pennsylvania and the nation,” said Governor Wolf. “This commitment to repairing the interstate will benefit businesses, Pennsylvanians and all motorists for years to come.”
The project includes milling, patching, and paving of Interstate 80 west between Exit 293 (Interstate 380) and Exit 284 (PA 115). This section of road has an average daily traffic volume of 12,200 vehicles
Under this improvement project, the contractor will mill off the existing roadway surface and repave the state highways with new asphalt. The new pavement will seal the roadways and provide motorists with a smoother riding surface. The project also includes bituminous patching.
Starting August 20 and lasting throughout the duration of the project, motorists should be alert for weekday (Monday through Thursday) lane restrictions between the hours of 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM. Updates will be provided whenever schedules change.
J.D. Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, PA is the general contractor on the $2,517,080 project, which is expected to be complete in October.
Other PennDOT District 5 resurfacing projects made possible by Resurface PA include:
