A 74-year-old man who lived on Mountain Road in Ross Township died Monday after a tree fell on him, Monroe County Coroner Bob Allen said. The man’s identity is being withheld pending notification of family.
The man’s wife went to the grocery story around 1 p.m. and her husband told her he was going to do some work out back, on their large property.
When she arrived home, she looked for him on the property, found him under the tree and called 911 around 5:05 p.m., Allen said.
The man often cut wood with his chainsaw for a wood burning stove.
The tree was dead and probably broke before he thought it would, falling in an unexpected direction, Allen said.
“It was an unfortunate accident,” Allen said.
