PLAINFIELD, Pa. - A Monroe County man was killed in a one-vehicle crash on Rt. 33 Thursday morning. The crash occurred around 10:20 a.m. at mile marker 16.9 near the Wind Gap exit.

State Police said Richard Finelli, 23, of Saylorsburg, was traveling south on Rt. 33 when he failed to negotiate a left curve in the road. Police said Finelli traveled across the right lane and onto the right shoulder where he crashed into multiple trees.
Police said after Finelli's Jeep Cherokee hit the trees, it rolled multiple times, throwing Finelli from the vehicle. Finelli was taken to St. Luke's Hospital where he was pronounced dead by the Lehigh County Coroner.

State Police were assisted at the scene by Suburban EMS, Plainfield Township EMS, Wind Gap EMS, Lifestar Life Flight Crew, Plainfield FD and Blue Ridge Hook and Ladder. Crews did closed Route 33 Southbound in the area of the crash for some time, but have since reopened it.

Any witnesses or anyone who might have witnesses the crash is asked to contact Trooper Robert Hooper of the Pennsylvania State Police Belfast Barracks at 610-759-6106

    Seat belts? Speeding? Texting?

    How sad!

Unfortunately, my mom was driving behind him, starting at Old Rt 115 before merging onto 33 South. She reported that he was driving erratically, first almost driving off the side of the road on Old Rt. 115, then swerving back and forth in his lane on 33, where he sped off. She was one of the first to come upon the scene of the accident, less than a mile after merging. He was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected. What a sad, unnecessary loss of life. Very traumatic for all the witnesses. Vehicles on both sides of the highway stopped immediately and people came rushing to help.. a physician’s assistant, another person who prayed for him, so many good samaritans that wanted to help.
Praying for his family and loved ones.
