Saylorsburg student wins student juried art exhibition

Morgan Weissbach, a sophomore from Saylorsburg. majoring in art & design, received the first prize for “Collision,” a pen and ink drawing at East Stroudsburg University’s Student Art Association Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition.
Second prize went to Paul Burke, a junior art & design major from Saylorsburg, for his oil painting, Flower Face.
Evelyn Barone, a junior from Brodheadsville, majoring in biology earned the third prize for her graphite drawing title “How Far?” which was based on a photo by James Keivom.
“The Tragedy of Black Motherhood,” a mixed media piece created by David Canady, a senior from Philadelphia majoring in art & design, received the award for the best 3-D work in the exhibit. Canady also earned honorable mention for his graphite and ink drawing, “Hope, ye not abandon.”
Honorable mentions also were awarded to Rusty Wallace, a junior communication studies major from Nazareth, for his mixed-media piece titled “McDonald’s Preys on Children;” Ed Nufrio, a senior art & design major from Andover, N.J., for his inkjet print “Death Zone;” Alisha Rohrer, a sophomore art & design major from Carlisle, for her oil painting, “Seashells;” Kevina Di Nicola, a junior art & design major from Belvidere, N.J., for her graphite drawing “AC/DC Angus Young;” and Kristina Turturiello, a freshman art & design major from Honesdale, for her sculpture “‘Tad’ the Deer.”
Prizes for the exhibit were sponsored by the Pocono Chapter of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen and Music in the Mountains. Local professional artist Edward Evans served as juror for the exhibit.
The Student Art Association Annual Juried Student Art Exhibit, featuring more than 70 works in a multitude of media, continues through April 16 in the Madelon Powers Gallery of ESU’s Fine and Performing Arts Center, Normal and Marguerite streets, East Stroudsburg.
Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays, and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The free exhibit is open to the public.
