School to Provide Counselors After 6-Year-Old Killed in Crash
HAMILTON TOWNSHIP — Officials say crisis counselors will be available Monday at a school in Monroe County to help students cope with the death of a kindergarten student killed in a crash near Stroudsburg.
Six-year-old Sophia Willis was a student at J.M. Hill Elementary School in the East Stroudsburg Area School District.
Authorities say Willis was killed on Business Route 209 in Hamilton Township on Saturday when the car her mother was driving crossed over the line and crashed into another vehicle.
The school district released a statement Sunday:
“Our school community is deeply grieved by the sudden loss of a precious young life this weekend.”
The coroner said the young girl was wearing a seatbelt but it was behind her back, not across her chest.
Her mother, Rebecca Willis, and the driver of the other vehicle were flown to the hospital.
An autopsy is scheduled for Monday morning.
