On Friday, October 7, 2022, at approximately 9:15 am, the Stroud Area Regional Police Department was dispatched in reference to a fisherman discovering what he believed to be a dead body in the Pocono Creek in the area of Tanite Road in Stroud Township. Officers responded to the location and did locate a dead body in the creek.
The body was recovered from the water at approximately 12:15 pm with the assistance of fire personnel and turned over to the Coroners Office.
The individual was identified as 26-year-old Anthony Nicholas Counterman, a white male from Greenville NC (originally from Stroudsburg Pa). At this time, cause and manner of death is currently undetermined and will be pending autopsy results. An autopsy will be scheduled by the Coroners Office.
The SARPD would like to thank the Pennsylvania State Police, Monroe County Coroners Officer, Monroe County Sheriffs Department, Suburban EMS and Stroud, Bushkill and Shawnee Fire Departments for their assistance with this incident.
