FANS CAN DRIVE TRACK, COLLECT GIFT CARD AS RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE RETURNS TO POCONO RACEWAY
The 11th annual Pocono Raceway blood drive will be held Thursday, July 7 from 1 to 7 p.m. at Pocono Raceway and feature lunch, gift cards, ticket giveaways and the chance to drive the 2.5-mile raceway.
“This has grown to be a tremendous event and we are excited to open Pocono Raceway to the community,” said Pocono Raceway President & CEO Brandon Igdalsky. “The Red Cross does an incredible job and our staff is thrilled to support this great initiative.”
All presenting donors will receive a $10 Visa gift card and lunch, courtesy of Suburban Propane (while supplies last). In addition, presenting donors will be placed into a random drawing for four Terrace Club tickets and an invitation to driver introductions prior to the Pennsylvania 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup race on July 31 at Pocono Raceway.
“We are proud to partner with Pocono Raceway again this year to help save lives!” said Beth Toll, External Communications Manager, Northeastern Pennsylvania Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross. “Patients in area hospitals depend on donors every day to give them hope by rolling up their sleeve. You never know when a friend, family member, co-worker or even you will need blood.”
Those in attendance can also participate in the “Ride for the Red” event and take a lap around Pocono Raceway in their own vehicle for a $10 per lap donation. Donations benefit the American Red Cross Disaster Fund. Those who wish to participate in the ride must do so before donating blood. A blood donation is not required to turn laps.
To make an appointment to donate, simply download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit redcrossblood.org and use Code: POCONO or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767). All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental consent in Pennsylvania), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
Blood donors can now save time at their next donation by using RapidPass to complete their pre-donation reading and health history questionnaire online, on the day of their donation, prior to arriving at the blood drive. To get started and learn more, visit redcrossblood.org/RapidPass and follow the instructions on the site.
