The filming of Bagel Wars coming to Effort, PA June 11th
Michael Giordano contacted and invited us to observe the taping of a new show called Bagel War's this Saturday June 11th from 6:00 am to 1:00 pm that will air on FoodyTV (foodytv.com) and he encourages everyone to stop by and possibly join in. Below is the full story that the Pocono Record published on June 4th. We hope to see our community there in full force.
Bagels are a staple of the American diet. Now a group hopes to make it a part of our television-viewing habits.
FoodyTV, a 24-hour internet network will produce a pilot called Bagel Wars this month. It will feature Brooklyn Bridge Bagels of Effort.
The show will focus on the the trials and tribulations of the bagel business, FoodyTV Program Director Joe Canaro said.
“Everyone wakes up and has a bagel and coffee. The concept is about what goes into making the bagels, the business dealing with the customers and the drama within the business. There’s something unique about a place that opens at 4 a.m.,” he said.
“And there’s some other bagel places locally that are always trying to come up with something different.”
Brooklyn Bridge Bagels features oddities like the French Toast bagel, chocolate chip and Oreo cream cheeses and Nutella and Fluff bagels.
About 90 percent of FoodyTV's programming is a chef in front of a camera cooking, your average table top cooking show, Canaro said. A smaller part of its business is producing reality shows. It has three featuring restaurants. “We are always trying to come up with something different.”
Bagel Wars is the brainchild of Brooklyn Bridge Bagels Manager and Bagel Maker Michael Giordano.
“I had an idea about a sitcom/reality show about what goes on here day-to-day,” he said. “The first hour-and a-half to two hours we are open we have eight old men, customers, come in. It’s like a complete nursing home atmosphere. Everyone goes after each other verbally. They completely tie up all our tables and chairs — with one cup of coffee.”
The network has producers who listen for ideas for shows, Canaro said. “If it’s something unique and hasn’t been done before, we invest and make the pilot. We think most people will relate to a bagel store."
FoodyTV delivers its content through cable TV alternatives.
“We are noticing a major shift,” Canaro said. “The new millennials, they watch these shows on demand, on smart TVs, Roku boxes. They don’t subscribe to cable.”
His network targets a young audience, the 18 to 38-year-old bracket. It features a 24-hour continuous broadcast feed on its home page, foodytv.com. Some of its other shows include “Cooking Time with Remmi,” “Fire House Kitchen” and “Stress Free Cooking.”
The pilot will run 12 times on the network, most likely at 8 p.m. or 8:30 p.m. two or three days a week.
“Depending on how well it goes on the air, if it goes well we might seek out sponsors to go forward," Canaro said.
FoodyTV will film the pilot beginning at about 6:30 a.m. on June 11, and the shooting will last for a good part of the day. The network invites the public to attend the filming and possibly become part of the show.
Brooklyn Bridge Bagels is located at 3265 Route 115.
