Two escape injury in plane crash in Penn Forest Township, Carbon County

A 65-year-old man and 63-year-old woman, both of Saylorsburg escaped serious injury Saturday afternoon at around 3:35 pm when their single engine airplane crashed behind a home along Pawnee Trail in Mount Pocahontas, Penn Forest Township Carbon County. They were heading tp Saylorsburg when they developed engine trouble.

The FAA reports that the plane was a Zenith STOL CH 701, a single fixed wing, single engine Sport Pilot Light Aircraft that comes in kit form.

The cause of the crash is unknown at this time and an investigation is ongoing.

Penn Forest Township Volunteer Fire Company was called to the scene as were Lehighton Ambulance, Civil Air Patrol Local, State and Federal (FAA, NTSB) Authorities. The NTSB will be back on the scene on Sunday to investigate the crash.
